المُزاحة تذهب المَهابة
كثرة الضحك تُذهب الهيبة

كل إناء بما فيه يرشح

كيف أعاودك و هذا أثر فأسك
Too many cooks spoil the broth
من كثرة الملاحين غرقت السفينة
Stolen waters are sweet
Forbidden fruit is sweet
Stolen kisses are more sweet
أحب شيء إلى الإنسان ما منعا
كل ممنوع مرغوب
المرء تواق إلى ما لم ينل
رأيت النفس تكره ما لديها و تطلب كل ممتنع عليها
كل ممنوع متبوع كل مبذول مملول
When pigs can fly
حتى يشيب الغراب
حتى يرجع الدرُّ في الضرع
حتى يرجع السهم على فوقه

زاد الطين بِلة
زاد ضِغثاً على إبّالة
زاد في الشطرنج نَقلة وفي الطنبور نغمة

خير الأمور أحمدها مغبة

أبصر من زرقاءاليمامة
More observant than Zarqaa' Al Yamama. (A famous woman with incredible eye sight)
أبصر من غراب
More observant than a crow.
أبطأمن سلحفاة
Slower than a turtle.
أبعد من الثريا
Further than Pleiades.
أبكى من يتيم
More tearful than an orphan.
أبلغ من قس بنساعدة
More fluent than Qas Bin Sa'ida.
أبيع من إخوة يوسفأتب من أبيلهب
More cursed than Abi Lahab. (Evil uncle of Muhammad PBUH)
أتبع منالظل

اتَّكَلْنا منه على خُصٍّالاتحادقوة

اتسع الخرق على الراقعاتق الأحمق أن تصحبه إنما الأحمق كالثوب الخلق كلمارقعت منه جانبا صفقته الريح وهنا فانخرق

أجهل الناس منكان على السلطان مدلا وللإخوان مذلاأجود من حاتم
More generous than Hatim. (Hatim Al Ta'ee, a very generous man)
احذر الأحمق واحذر وُدَّهُ (إنماالأحمق كالثوب الْخَلَق)
احذر عدوك مرة وصديقك ألف مرة فإن انقلب الصديق فهوأعلم بالمضرة
Be careful of your enemy once and of your friend a thousand times, for a double crossing friend knows more evil. (or knows more about what harms you)
أحذر من غراب

احفر بئرا وَطُمَّبئرا ولا تُعَطِّلْ أجيرا
dig a well then close the well, but do not fire a worker
احفظ قرشك الأبيض ليومك الأسود
Literal meaning: Save your white penny for your black day.
Idiomatic translation: A penny saved is a penny earned.
